ABOUT US

Looking for a sport that challenges both the body and mind?

VANDERWEGE ACADEMIE provides all levels of fencing lessons for those in the

I-35 corridor (Austin, Kyle, San Marcos, Wimberly and San Antonio). Maestro Gary M. van der Wege has many years of elite international fencing experience, and has achieved the highest level of professional coaching certification awarded (Fencing Master).

  Check out our various options and feel free to contact us for your chance to try OLYMPIC or PARALYMPIC SPORT FENCING.

All participants should have basic $10 minimum membership in USA Fencing for insurance/liability.

SAN MARCOS

Due to COVID, we are only offering Summer Camps through the San Marcos Parks and Recreation. We may return to offering on-going classes at a later date.

Our Adult Coaching Staff are all certified by the US Center for SafeSport and have passed all background checks as required by USA Fencing.

Due to COVID, we have had to suspend our HOMESCHOOL Fencing Classes.  We hope to reinstate these classes in the Fall of 2021.

WANT MORE INFORMATION?

Due to COVID, we are are unable to offer our Community Fencing Classes through the University of the Incarnate Word Wellness Program.

 

We hope to return to offering on-going classes at a later date.

Gary Vanderwege

Gary teaches Foil, Epee and Sabre to the young and not-so-young. He takes pride in teaching HONOR and RESPECT along with the skills and tactics of Olympic Sport Fencing.

Ting Chang-Vanderwege

Coach Ting serves as an assistant coach at our Kyle location. She enjoys working with kids, attends USFCA Coaching Clinics, and has competed in numerous events across the country. She provides computer Bout Committee services and is a Professional Member of USA Fencing.
